Job Summary:
The Greenrock Full Time Gardener position reports to the Curator of Gardens and is responsible for assisting in the overall garden maintenance of the historic Rockefeller Estate, owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and administered by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund under the direction of the Curator of Gardens.
The Greenrock Corporation advances the National Trust’s Mission by providing property management services to historic property owned by the National Trust, including ongoing maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, landscaping, security, and conservation.
Duties:
- Assist in maintaining all aspects of well-established garden areas.
- Duties include planting, dividing, some propagation, transplanting, weeding, pruning, deadheading, fertilizing etc. as directed.
- Assist in keeping grounds neat and safe for visitors.
- Interact with the public in a polite and friendly manner.
- Other duties as instructed.
Qualifications:
- Formal education in horticulture; a Horticulture Certificate or Degree - at least three (3) years of relevant experience preferred.
- Possess a strong knowledge of plant identification, plant growth and cultural requirements and an eye for detail.
- Skilled in identifying pests and plant disease.
- Pesticide applicator or technician certification preferred.
- Have an interest in historic gardens.
- Must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic, work well as a team member with the ability to manage time efficiently and execute tasks independently.
- Ability to be flexible in a fast paced and dynamic environment where priorities shift due to variables like weather, scheduling and events.
- Ability to understand instructions and deadlines in English and execute tasks as assigned, with ability to learn and handle routine tasks without close supervision.
- Minimum physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs on a frequent basis and occasionally more; ability to push or pull up to 50 lbs on a frequent basis and occasionally more; ability to bend, squat, kneel, twist, turn, climb, and reach above the shoulder frequently.
- Ability and willingness to work in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license, with clean driving record required. DMV background check and periodic updates may be required.
- Some overtime evening and weekend work is required.

Drivers must inform their supervisor immediately and cease from driving if they have been cited for a DUI or DWI or if their driver’s license is suspended or revoked, or if they are unfit to drive due to drowsiness, fatigue, illness, medication, inclement weather, or any other factor.
- Promptly report any accidents or damage to vehicle to supervisor. Respond calmly and professionally to emergencies, contacting authorities and/or supervisor as appropriate and helping to ensure an overall safe working environment.
PAY & BENEFITS
This is a full time, non-exempt-level position, eligible for full benefits, including affordable health, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement plan contributions, paid vacation, plus sick time and holidays.
Hourly rate/Salary: $28 per hour (annualized to $58,240 based on a schedule of 40 hours/week)
