PROJECT SUMMARY
The National Trust for Historic Preservation is seeking an eager and detail-oriented SQL Intern to join our Development Services team. This internship offers the opportunity to work on impactful projects aimed at improving the functionality of our query tool, developing reports, and contributing to the management of key fundraising metrics. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in SQL programming within a dynamic nonprofit environment.
This internship provides an opportunity to someone with programming knowledge, problem solving abilities and an expressed understanding of databases.
National Trust internships are temporary experiential learning opportunities with no expectation of employment at the conclusion of the internship.
For this internship, the National Trust is offering a stipend of $4,000 to help offset expenses. The period of the internship would be from approximately June 2 – July 25, for approximately 28 hours per week.
DUTIES
1. Develop SQL scripts to enable more efficient data extraction for reporting needs.
2. Automate scripts for colleagues within our CRM related to fundraising, membership and donor giving.
3. Update existing SQL scripts to refresh the direct mail program appeals.
EDUCATIONAL VALUE TO THE INTERN
The intern will gain experience under the mentorship of respected business professionals and non-profit database managers in an educational setting at one of the nation’s leading non-profit advocacy organizations. The intern will also have the opportunity to participate in educational programming offered via the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s organization-wide internship program. Students may also be eligible for college or graduate school academic credit at the discretion of their institution.
At the end of the project the intern will have a suite of queries and reports to add to their professional portfolio in support of their future career pursuits.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with SQL Server, MySQL, or other relational database management systems.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
- Basic analytical and problem-solving skills, including issue identification and prioritization. Basic project-organization skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate and achieve results with supervision, including ability to interact professionally with key internal and external stakeholders as needed.
- Strong organizational skills are required, with ability to prioritize, multi-task efficiently, and meet deadlines in a timely fashion.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Friendly and professional demeanor on the phone and in writing.
- Proficiency with SQL and relational databases as well as Microsoft Office products required, including Outlook, Word and Excel. Familiarity with CRM systems is a plus.
- Ability work effectively in a remote environment, maintaining productivity and communications to meet deadlines and goals, is required.
- Bachelor’s level studies (or equivalent years of experience) required; current or rising juniors, seniors or graduate students preferred. Studies or demonstrated interest in related subject matter preferred. Preference given to those pursuing degrees in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology or a related field.
