Mechanical Technician

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Technician reports to the Director of Facilities and is responsible for assisting in the overall building maintenance of the historic Rockefeller Estate, owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and administered by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund under the direction of the Director of Facilities.

The Greenrock Corporation advances the National Trust’s Mission by providing property management services to historic property owned by the National Trust, including ongoing maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, landscaping, security, and conservation.

Duties:

  • At the direction of the Director of Facilities, manage and maintain buildings and infrastructure, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair issues related to plumbing, HVAC, electrical and fire systems.
  • Respond calmly and professionally to emergency situations, promptly notifying senior staff of incidents or unsafe conditions.
  • Perform light construction, painting, and mechanical work as needed.
  • Participate in rotation of on-call, overtime coverage during evenings, weekends, and holidays, which includes inspecting buildings and responding to alarms as necessary.
  • Event set up.
  • Perform daily building system checks.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5-6 years’ work experience in plumbing and heating.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, plumbing diagrams, and building plans.
  • Knowledge of building and plumbing codes.
  • Basic problem-solving skills, including issue identification and prioritization.
  • Ability to understand instructions and deadlines in English and execute tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to learn and handle routine tasks without close supervision.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of staff as a site team member.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work overtime during evenings, weekends, and holidays for events.
  • Self-Starter.
  • Minimum physical requirements include ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs on a frequent basis and occasionally more; ability to push or pull up to 75 lbs on a frequent basis and occasionally more; ability to bend, squat, kneel, twist/turn, climb, and reach above the shoulder frequently; and ability to drive an automatic or standard shift vehicle frequently.
  • Valid driver’s license, with clean driving record required. DMV background check and periodic updates may be required.

  • Promptly report any accidents or damage to van to supervisor. Respond calmly and professionally to emergencies, contacting authorities and/or supervisor as appropriate and helping to ensure an overall safe working environment.

Pay & Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt level position, eligible for full benefits, including health, dental and life insurance, retirement benefits, and vacation, plus sick time and holidays.

Hourly Rate - $37.00/hour
