Curatorial Housekeeper (Shadows-on-the-Teche)

JOB SUMMARY

The Curatorial Housekeeper is responsible for the regular cleaning and maintenance of the Shadows-on-the-Teche and its collections (including the period rooms and collection storage areas), in support of and under the supervision of the professional staff. The position is hourly, part-time (generally 7 hours per week as needed, extra hours as needed with supervisor approval in advance, typically not to exceed 14 hours per week). The pay rate is $15 an hour.

DUTIES

  • Provide curatorial care in museum rooms and in collection storage areas including cyclical dusting, floor cleaning and waxing, vacuuming upholstered furniture and window treatments, cleaning glass and mirrored surfaces, cleaning silver and metal objects, following National Trust Housekeeping Guidelines and accepted museum practices.
  • Assist with seasonal and cyclical rotation of museum objects.
  • Maintain inventory of all cleaning supplies and tools needed to carry out this function.
  • Assist with exhibitions (object preparation and installation) and care and management of the historic collection.
  • Additional duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 2+ years of relevant experience in a museum setting, with interest in museums and collections care.
  • Ability to work as a team member with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.
  • Basic problem-solving skills, including issue identification and prioritization. Ability to understand instructions and deadlines in English and execute tasks as assigned, with ability to learn and handle routine tasks according to specified processes.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of staff, committee members and volunteers ensuring cooperation as a site team member.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
  • Minimum physical requirements include ability to lift/push 20 lbs on a frequent basis and occasionally more, including moving collections pieces and furniture and cleaning equipment; ability to bend, squat, kneel, twist/turn, climb and reach above the shoulder frequently.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

PAY & BENEFITS

This is a limited part time, non-exempt, position, working 7-14 hours/week on average.

Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour
